Frequently asked questions
Will we have a pre-wedding meeting with you?
The first time we'll meet is at an initial briefing session to talk through your plans and any special requirements. When you engage me we'll have a meeting well before the wedding to finalise plans and go through the guest list, your requirements for photographs and any other special requests you have.
What photography format do you use?
I work entirely with professional digital cameras because of the superb images they produce and their versatility and reliability in all lighting conditions and locations.
I can't decide which style of photography I want
A good starting point is to have an idea of what you like and what you don't - have a look through some wedding magazines. We can then discuss this at our first briefing meeting - I'll be able to show you some examples of the weddings I have photographed and help you decide what would best suit you.
Do we get a copy of all the negatives?
There are no negatives with digital photography. Your album will comprise beautifully mounted photographic prints and I can also supply you with images on a CD.
Will you know the venue?
I have photographed weddings at a wide range of venues so there's a good chance that I have worked at your venue before. If I haven't, I will visit it beforehand to establish the most suitable locations for taking pictures and check if there are any practical considerations to take into account.
What if it rains?
If it's impossible to photograph guests outdoors I'll have a complete lighting system with me so that we can do everything indoors - I'll have checked the venue beforehand for suitable locations.
Do you have an assistant?
I almost always work with an assistant. It makes the day so much easier - both for me and my clients. We can work faster and it means we always get the details right As a bonus you'll also get more images to choose from.
What happens if you are ill on the day, or your camera doesn't work?
I belong to several professional bodies, the British Institute of Professional Photographers, the Master Photographers’ Association and the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photography. In the unlikely event that I am unable to photograph your wedding on the day I can arrange for a fellow member whose work I know and respect to take my place. I also carry the appropriate insurance (i.e. public liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance). I always carry back-up cameras with me.
Do we have to buy our album from you?
Some photographers insist that you do this, but I don't. You are free to buy your own album and insert the photographs yourself. That said, I believe that your pictures will look much more impressive professionally presented.
What if we want extra photographs for guests, or at a later date?
I can supply you with thank-you cards, framed prints and presents. You only have to ask!
